A meteor almost crashes on the roadster!
And just when you thought I was pulling your legs... Guess what?
I AM NOT KIDDING!
Well I was driving back home after a two hour spent at the shop of a friend who kindly offered to patch up the holes my old license plate left in my roadster's fannies. He did a most excellent job and all 4 holes are now patched and the panel repainted and the fannies look immaculate and are ready to have the 1932 plates and retro light installled... but all of this is another story.
Anywhoo, after having a quick bite with my beau, I was driving back the windy road to my house, on my lovely lonesome. It is very dark on the way home because you ride through several state park areas - nothing but hills. I was night dreaming, listening to my cruise music and enjoying the freezing sensation slowly creeping up my cheeks to my earswhen suddenly....
BEHOLD! WHAT IS THIS THING ON FIRE FALLING FROM THE HEAVENS????
It kept going for what seemed an eternity, travelling FAAAST from right to left and I could see the fire coming out of it
For a moment I thought it was going to crash on the hill before me, or maybe even fall on the roadster- What was neat is seeing it so clearly because I was driving a roadster... Wow... How cool was that?
After about 3 or 4 seconds of travel the meteor burned out and POOF vanished as fast as it had appeared. I have honestly never seen anything like this in my entire life. This thing was either HUGE and far or small and AWFULLY CLOSE!
Either way, it was very special and the roadster and I will cherish this romantic moment together forever ...
PS: As I reached Mulholland drive it suddenly felt a lot warmer. I couldn't help but wonder: "Wow, did it just get warmer? Or did I finally lose ALL feelings in my face?"

Unlike the rest of these doubting Thomases, I believe you cause I have seen a similar event just last year. About 2 AM on my rear deck, sitting in the old hot tub, when a streak came across the sky from the south to the north. The object was probably several hundred feet in the air and left a trail of smoke behind it for about a quarter of a mile before it disappeared. No sound, no color except bright white. Never saw anything like it before or since. Was too late in the summer for the Perseid meteor showers, plus it was a one shot event. Had a strange smell in the air afterwards, like burning sulfur.
Can only assume that it burned out before hitting anything, since there was no report of anything being damaged in the direction it was traveling. And no, I don't drink in the hot tub, nor do I sleep there.
Now the part about the heat and temperature increase, I don't know. Nothing like that happened where I was. For a sensation like that I would think you'd have to be really close to the object. Closer than I would want to be.

I dont know what direction you were traveling, but vandenburg afb used to do all kinda weird stuff, when i grew up in lancaster, i used to see all kinds of things going up and coming down, the only reason i knew it came from vandenburg is cause most of my family was in the aircraft industry so they knew when a test was being done, just a thought ,not trying to spoil your fun
Dammit, another good ol boy gone. Condolence to the family. RIP Mike
