    Unhappy fuel pump breaks

I have broken 2 Holley fuel pumps , one right after the other. First pump had run for at least a couple years, then the casting broke. Replaced it and about a week later it broke in the same place. Anyone else had this problem? Could be just bad luck, but somehow I think something else is going on.

    Try a double gasket.

I’ve seen that happen to a couple other guys also, although I don’t know why. The only thing I can think of is maybe the cam lobe that operates the fuel pump has too much lift, or it was ground with to aggressive of a profile. It could be a tolerance stack up between the cam, block, and push rod.

If it has too much lift, the double gasket trick may fix it, or cut out a spacer shim from a piece of sheet metal, or grind the push rod a little shorter.

OK I finally got it figured out. Was looking the wrong place. The engine was loose on the mounts and would slide into the frame. Fixed now.

Well there you go. Easy fix at least. What kind of car/frame are we talking about here? Is the pump pretty close to the frame?
