Do all of the requisite diagnostics, first; compression check, cylinder pressure leak down, vacuum readings. If the cylinders are good on the compression and leak down, the rings are ok and the valves are seating and sealing, and the head gaskets are likely ok, so a look at the valve seals and stems is in order. Go from there.
