I can't ID this Small block. Can Anybody make sense of this?
Hi. I'm new to the site and I sure need help!
I just bought a '51 Chevy and the small block in it has the following casting numbers.
Suffix= F0731ID. Block Casting= 3789985 [I only found 37899(3)5] The date code is G282.
The Suffix denotes a 327 but the casting denotes a 283 if the number was 3 not 8. I believe the date code is 1962?
Am I way off base here?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
