Glad your back at it. If it's going to be a regular driver, I don't think I would want anything over 3.55 without an overdrive trans. I have 3.23 in my T/A and the motor hums pretty fast going down the interstate but not too bad. I have a buddy that put 3.73 in his Camaro and he didn't like them because of how fast the engine was always running. I don't have any experience installing posi.

Pozi is a layman term for limited slip.

There are several types. I have had one car with limited slip, didn't like it.

It was the clutch disc type. When the car ran on a straight - a - way, the oil slings out from the discs and they get real tight. Then, when the car turns, they POP free, you can hear and feel it. I tried an additive in the oil, it helped some. I also found it caused the tires to wear on the inside, becoming cone - shaped. Also, the car was more prone to fishtailing.

If I don't install a limited slip unit how can I get power to both rear wheels. If I take off hard I don't want to spin one wheel when I could have two giving me better grip.

There are absolutely limited slip diff's in the bone yard, you just need to do a bit of research. Also, decide if you want a unit which will drop in, or change the whole rear end.

Grab a JEG and Summit catalog and look at costs for new units. Lots of different types, each has its advantages.

On my build, I've already done the engine and transmission and am about to swap in a strange S60 rear end with 3:73 gears and a posi unit; the transmission is a 700r4 so it has an over drive to keep the rpms down on the highway. The S60 is not cheap, but it'll come complete and ready to bolt in and be done with.

I've put the Strange rears in several cars-they build them with all the brackets to be a direct swap---

A lot of people including me like Detroit True Trac differentials for street vehicles. They have better manners than a lot of other limited slip units. Check them out before you buy something else.

So I have verified that I currently have 8.2" gears. Can I put 8.5 gears in the same differential housing? I hear they're much stronger.

I have a dash lighting problem. By blinkers work as due head lights and tail lights. No dash lights work except the blinkers. Being 45 years old could the bulbs be burnt out or is it a switch/wiring problem.

See the answers in your other thread. It's not a good idea to put the same questions in more than one place - gets everything confused.

I've done what you said and came up with readings of 4@135, 2@138 and 2@140. Is this all you need to determine cam coordination?
