    Electrical tape down distributor hole.

     



    Ya....

    Taped the oil pump shaft to a rod to lower it into place... it came off. I tried to fish it out... and it's where I can't see it... went toward the front of the engine...dropped pan turnned motor by hand.... no tape.

    It's 1/2 inches around and about 1 1/2 inch long
    I need help.

    Ya i tried that but I can't get an eye on it now... can't see it

    Where would it have gone?

    Do I need to pull the crank shafthe out to get to the little turd? Oh man that would be bad

    It was laying right next to the oil pump shaft, tried to get it but it disappeared toward the front of the engine... I figured that meant it was laying on top of the crankshaft so we dropped the pan turn the crankshaft inspect the pan look for the tape to drop and saw nothing so where could it be? I really do not want to pull the engine out and apart to find a piece of electrical tape

    Drained oil, dropped pan, and juuuuust got done with the air hose ... :-(

    What will it hurt in the screen?

    Idk that it went bottom... can't find it in the pan, can't find it looking down the distributor hole
    .... guess I could pull the intake but as far down as it was (laying next to the oil pump shaft) how cold it be in the lifter valley? I can look into guess... just seems unlikely :-(

    If it's not under the intake the engine will have to come out I guess... unless the tape will not harm it mechanically. .. I don't know if it can lol

    I'm about 2 shakes from using a 40 psi pump on my truck tank and trying to Wash it out with diesel ...

    Not ever used one but there are a few of these floating around. Not all that expensive, works with a cell phone.

    Finding black tape in a black hole is not going to be easy. May I ask what you were trying to do, I am just curious?

    Try and modify a shop vac hose, step it down to a tube that will get down the hole and suck the tape out? One more thing to add. You need only enough suction to grab the tape not suck it into the vacuum, I would want to see the tape if it were me.

    Empty the canaster, but then there is always the chance the tape could get lodged in the hose. That would still leave doubt as to if it came out. Not removing the tape, I'm thinking your mind will never let it rest and driving the HotRod becomes less enjoyable.

    Hopefully your prior recovery efforts have not moved it.

    Are you SURE it is down the dizzy hole?

    I edited this post after re reading your thread- I was thinking Chevy, dizzy to the rear.

    so-------didn't you realize that there was a 50% chance(sure bet) that the tape would stick to the oil pump shaft instead of the rod?????????

    I am sure that it was down at the very bottom. Lying Next to the pump shaft... went forward (toward front of the vehicle) then I lost sight of it... don't see how it's in the valley if it was that low... but hey can't hurt to look with my new boroscope.... and mirror/hook kit...

    While I am doing this for piece of mind... I still am wondering what exactly that little piece of electrical tape could hurt, that's one thing nobody has mentioned.

    So the tape idea wasn't the best. 10-4
    ... can't change that... however if I can run the engine (1984 Chevrolet 350) then pull the pan and check the pump screen... that'd be saweet. It takes like 15 mins to lower the pan to the point I can reach in it and even drop the pump

    I would think the only place it would be at that point is the pump screen....

    if its on the pump screen it could/would restrict flow into the pump, And after the oil gets hot, melts the tape into sticky goo, gooms up the oil bypass valve, valve lifters plungers, blocks push rod hole, burns up tips and valve stem end------

    I had no intention of getting the engine to operating temperatures just wanted to run it to get whatever it is loose and in screen so that I can just grab it off the screen button everything back up and be on my way
