    Roller Rocker Advice

Looking to buy a set of 1.5 rockers here in the next week. They'll be going in a 383 motor for drag racing only. I'm using a Comp solid 645 lift cam with Dart Pro 1 heads. Any recommendations on a particular brand to go with. I was thinking of going with Comp since that's the maker of my cam, but have heard Scorpion makes a good rocker as well. Would appreciate you guys's opinions. Thanks,

For a stud-mounted system, Crane Gold Race rocker arms.

    Subset of the question:
I see SBC roller rockers with the guides on the roller tip for Vortec engines. The use of the tips guiding off the valves eliminates the use of push rod guide plates.
Could these rockers be used on any stock or aftermarket head instead of using guide plates? Disadvantages?
    Thanks

    Bump.
Still curious as to why these are not used more.

It makes sense to me, but you would have to make sure that the pushrods clear the head material where they come up through the head from the lifter cup. You can't use two guiding systems or you will have a bind.

Jerry, you are correct. You are up on the tire lately my friend. So, the problem might be that the sides of the rocker that center the valve stem tip would contact the tops of the retainers on a short valve stem tip setup, unloading the keepers and bringing the ballgame to a sudden end.

Do you think one method would be more accurate than the other? I would thing the rocker guided would have the least chance for wear - roller vs rubbing on the pushrod. It does not appear to be a stretch to have longer valve stems available to install. Any opinion?

for a stud mounted system overall the valve tip guided tip would be the simplist, most bottom line cost effective manufacturing method to build an OEM engine compared to precision SLOTTED pushrod holes, guide plates and/or shaft systems

Great post Denny. Most fellows don't think about long slot rockers until things get all jammed up and it gets expensive. A fellow might be able to simply change to +0.050" keepers to extend the tip of the valve enough to use guided rockers and keep the rocker rails off the retainers/keepers through the entire valve lift sequence. I know I've seen conventional stamped steel rockers with extended slots and rails offered by someone, but I can't remember who. Crane makes a nice "Nitro-Carb" stamped rocker for those of you who want a precision ratio in a conventional rocker.
