Welcome to Club Hot Rod, nhrafan!
Hopefully you’ll find us a good bunch and get what you’re looking for. As to your first post, there’s a bunch we need to know before providing any solid information.
What vehicle are you working on?
What transmission are you planning on using?
Have you thought about rearend configuration and ratio yet?
When you say “track” do you mean ¼ mile, oval, sprints?
Has the block been decked? In all likelihood it came from the factory with a 9.025” deck height and we need to know what that measurement is now. There are several factors that need to be considered here as not least of which is the deck height clearance. Most replacement pistons measure 1.560" above the wrist pin center line; however, there are some 350 pistons that are 1.54" which makes a big difference.
As to horsepower / torque, I love this quote from Harold Bettes, “It is the package with the greatest area under the power curve that has the advantage. Remember, you cannot have horsepower without torque, but you can have torque without horsepower!” (It's called a dump truck!)
Let us know what ya got and we can give you some advice!
