Okay here's the decipher:
V = Assembled in Flint, MI
08 = August
26 = 26th day of the month
WH = was used in 1966 for 283 Powerglide transmission, 1968 for 307 manual transmission and in 1969 for 350 manual transmission.
WH suffix was only used for truck - never in a production car. If it has a 3.875" bore x 3.00" stroke it is a 283.
