    Will my Small Block Breathe?

I have an 1987 Chevy Full size truck that I dropped a 350 w/ 10.5/1. I have a Edlebrock 4bbl w/ a manual choke, closed chambered heads, headers, and the cam has a 447 lift and 222 at 50 on the duration. (I think that's considered a standard RV cam - not really sure.) It is my work truck and it might seem like overkill, but even with 30 sheets of 3/4 " plywood, tool boxes and a trailer, she doesn't even break a sweat.

UNFORTUNATELY, a bonehead on a cell phone rear-ended me and totaled it out. I had purchased a parts truck - 1987 GMC with a bad 305, which now has to become my main truck. I plan on putting my motor from my Chevy into the GMC.

    My questions are:

Will the throttle body of the 305 feed my motor or do I need to change the chip in the ECM?

The GMC has stock exhaust manifolds and a standard single exhaust. Will this be too constricting for the motor?

If so - would it hurt the motor to run it like this until I get the exhaust swapped over?

    Thanks for any help

Well, u need a new induction, carbs are cheaper and easier, all u do is cut the wire to the check engine light. U will need new exaust, those would run but, not very good. U would also have to change some the fuel delivery systems but, it's much cheaper.

You'll be o.k. the single exhaust may be a little restricting . but the induction system will work just fine long as you use the 305 distributer and all the sensors etc.

    HWORRELL -

Would there be a sign that I was damaging the motor with the restricted exhaust? Loss of torque? Poor gas mileage?

Would an older style 350 exhaust manifolds (1970's vintage) have bigger ports?

    Thanks
    Russ

I don't think you'll have any problem from the ex.manifolds, your restriction would be in the single exhaust if any, your running a pretty mild cam, I don't like your compression for the street but hay it'll work, you'll just hafta run premium just be sure and use all the puter controls from the 305 and ya should be just fine...
