with the 69 head there are sloted guide holes in the heads that hold s push rod tracking .less the boss,s been cut down and guild plate use with screw in studs then you drill the heads out were the sloted holes are in the heads .there is no need for self guided rockers for stock 69 heads if you used a +050 valve lock or a +100 valve spring retainer. the retainer will run in to the rocker arms you will need to run a shorter set up on valve spring that will let you run a retainer with no recess/off set . were locks are. or if a shorter spring can not be used then use a longer valves with retainers with no off set or set heads up with guide plates use STd/ non tracking roller rocker . many after market retainer have alot of off set to use a taller spring in the heads but on guided rocker you need the see that the valve stem is at the tallest part to clear rocker tipIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

I know now that the self aligning rockers were wrong for the 327 heads!! The swirl ports have the holes for the guide plates, but I am wondering now if the self aligning rockers are wrong for these heads too. I have only pulled the 1 exhaust rocker so far, and could see where it hit a little on the retainer. Is it possable to use the stock 1.5 rockers with my current camshaft, or will it be another disaster that will saw my studs in half??? The push rod holes in these heads look like the 327's did even though their 96 heads.

it s not just if the head has a slot and guided or just drilled out it is that your runing the wrong retainer and or valve locks that putting the retainer up were the roller tip needs room to track if the heads have gulde slots you run a stander roller tip rocker 1.5 will work so will a 1.6 but needs to be checked may need a louis tool /sloting toolLast edited by pat mccarthy; 02-11-2014 at 06:30 PM.

Pat My problem may be that these roller tipped rockers are evidently for vortec heads. When I ordered them it said self aligning/ vortec. Is there a difference in angle on the vortec heads or something ??
I figure'd they would be basically the same as my swirl ports? They were the only self aligning roller tips that they had. I dont want to go through the hassle and expense of putting in guide plates at this point.
