    piston pins

How does a person remove (and install) press fit piston pins?

Do I have to buy a big press. to put 25 tons of force on the pin?
    had a rebuilt 355SB chevy
    it lasted 42,000km
    Got another rebuilt 355SB
    it lasted 62km.
I still have not had a powerful engine.

I'll tell you right now. If you got 25 tons on that pin you gat a real PROBLEM!!!. Seriously, the pins rarely take more than three tons pressure to remove them. You need a pin press fixture if you don"t want to damage the old pistons. If you don't care you can just support the side of the piston and place the correct arbor in the pin hole and press. If it exceeds five ton take a look and see what is wrong. DO NOT TRY TO RE INSTALL PINS WITH PRESS!! The only way to do that is to clean the pin bores in the piston and the rod, then heat the pin end of the rod. NOT RED HOT!. The trick is to heat the pin hole and as little material below it as possible. It is a "feel" developed with experience. Watch the color change of the metal. Have EVERYTHING ready, lightly oil the piston pin bore, heat the rod to correct temp then QUICKLY place rod end in piston and slide pin thru the rod end bore and hold it in proper placement (side to side) untill the rod end cools (about three seconds). then set it to the side to cool. Don't worry the piston will be stiff on the pin till the assembly cools. Then it will fall from side to side on its own weight. Any tighter is un acceptable and must be redone.
