help with a 327 block

I hope this would be the place to try to clairify my delima.. I just picked up a 327 sbc casting # 3782870 but what my delima is is what the code that follows is thats up front I can track most of it down but am lost on the suffix heres what the block casting says F040iu i know this is the plant and date but when i research the suffix iu it comes back big block anyone have any info on the number or can let me know why my small block has a iu suffix any help would be apprecited thanks

I don't see a dilemma. You have a small journal 327 block and since there is a suffix code on the passenger block deck, that's an indication that the block has never been decked or the suffix code would have been machined off. So, find a 283 crank and small journal rods and build a 302 or find a small journal 327 crank and small journal rods and build a 327 or use a 350 crank that has been turned down on the mains, together with large journal rods and build a 350 or find a 400 crank, turn down the mains, use large journal rods and build a 383. What kind of vehicle are you thinking of using this engine in? Because that will determine which crankshaft and how many cubic inches you should shoot for. Your options are wide open.
