First, welcome to CHR! You can buy a crate engine from Summit (just the first one that popped up) BluePrint Engines BP3834CT1 - BluePrint Engines GM 383 C.I.D. Stroker Base Crate Engines with Aluminum Heads - Overview - SummitRacing.com with 420hp/450TQ so you're not crazy. We've got several guys on here who can walk you through the pieces/parts, or you might search for some old threads where it's been hashed before.Roger
