    Rebuild a SBC 350

I’m going to rebuild a SBC 350 5.7 89-93 engine, I going to install the following:
-Comp Cams Magnum Camshaft, Hydraulic Roller Tappet, Advertised Duration 280/280, Lift .525/.525.
-Rocker Arms, Stud Mount, Self-Aligning, Roller Tip, Steel, 1.52 , 3/8 in. Stud
-Valve Springs, Dual, 1.430 in. Outside Diameter, 322 lbs./in. Rate, 1.150 in. Coil Bind Height.
    - Valve Spring Retainers, Steel, 10 Degree, 1.500 in. Outside Diameter, .690 in. Inside Diameter.
-Valve Locks, Machined, Hardened Steel, 10 Degree, 1-Groove, 11/32 in. Valve Stem
-Comp Cams Pro Magnum Hydraulic Roller Lifters.
-Carburetor, Quadrajet Stage 2, 750 cfm, 4-Barrel, Spread Bore, Single Inlet.
-Adjustable Vacuum Advance Kit For GM HEI W/ Springs & Weights
-Ignition Box, MSD 6AL-2, Digital CD, with Rev Limiter
I’m looking answers about the adjustments or settings for this configuration, like
    • Proper geometry (push rod length)
    • Timing set phasing ( +4 Degree advance)
    • Machining on cylinder heads.
Do I need use lash cap or shim for the spring? Common problems? Or failure heads? If you have any comments or some knowledge about this, for example Vacuum advance time adjusts or other considerations, I would appreciate your opinion. Thanks in advance.

My very best advice is to buy this book and read it through several times.

The questions you're asking tell me that you will have several hundred more questions and you may as well learn from one of the best, David Vizard. After you have digested Vizard, come back around and ask any questions here that you still don't understand. There are professional engine builders on this site who can answer everything for you.

You didn't mention heads. What are you thinking about using? Heads make a big difference in terms of the whole package.

you do not need lash caps . your retainers are for a 1.500 should be check that they fit the 1.430 springs.you did not say what head you have a 1.250 spring may fit better with no work and set up better then your looking at retainers for the smaller 1.250 spring and stamp steel 7 locks are fine and 7 machined steel is all you need .i do push rod check at mid lift and is the last part i buy .i use the rocker for build to get this right not the plastic checker
