    If it's a '79 motor, it's a Gen I.

Nope, nothing special. One of millions of Gen I motors, some of which are still providing service to owners around the world. It has a flat tappet camshaft, as opposed to a roller tappet camshaft which is used in current production Chevy motors. We just went through this with another poster, so bring yourself up to speed by reading this thread....

LT motors didn't show up until 1992 and LS motors made their debut around 1998.

If I'm building a 383 with this engine, what kind of driveline should I have?

What kind of rig are you planning to build? What will it be used for? Do you have to deal with the emissions Nazis? Is mileage important? Which is more important, top speed or accelleration? Will it be used strictly on the street or some street, some strip or all strip or hill climb or gymkhana or sand drags or circle track or stadium racing or just taking grandma to bingo?
