Hi Bill, if you'll detail some of the parts for me, I'll run it up on a DynoSim....I'll need....
1. piston part number or valve relief cc's
2. head flow, intake and exhaust, from 0.100" through 0.600".
3. piston deck height
4. camshaft part number
5. intake manifold part number
6. head gasket bore or gasket part number
As far as what HEI to use, I like the Davis Unified Ignition (DUI) distributor. They produce a quality product and will tailor it exactly to your combination of parts. You're using a pretty healthy cam, so the chart from Barry Grant suggests 20 degrees at the crank. If the heads are fast burn, I'd use another 14 degrees at the weights for a total of 34, all in by 2800. For the vacuum advance, I'd install a Crane 99600-1 vacuum advance kit and a Crane 99619-1 limiter plate if it doesn't come in the 99600-1 kit. There has been some confusion about this.
