You are right. But a big block melling pump is 39 bucks. Circle track guys have been doing this for years. It will give me the extra oil I want for my flat tappet solid lifter cam at idle.
I did this years ago with a but can't remember what pickup I used for the stock pan. That was the sweetest running small block engine I ever built back then that seen 8000 RPM'S (and more with a missed shift) daily and never came apart.
