Don and Pat, THANK YOU for the responses. It sounds as though the path of least resistance would be to find the 4x2 Blazer/Jimmy/S-10 /S-15 pan and pickup, as it sounds as though it's pretty much a bolt-on operation.
I managed to get an oil pan off a 1991 4.3, and I can see right off the bat it isn't going to fit.
