Could be a cracked cam timing gear. That happened on me once on a 327. Ran fine as long as you were driving it easy. If you stepped on it fairly hard or was driving up a hill it would lose power. Found out that the gear on the cam was cracked. Replaced the gear and it ran fine after that.
