I had a guy sell me some spark plugs one time for a open chamber head when I had a closed chamber head I turned the motor over by hand and it stoped.
The piston came up and hit the spark plug, needless to say I gave that guy a ear full.
I had told him exactly what I had and he still got it wrong, So yes I think it is important to know exactly what you are running.
