may i also add that does car WILL NOT wheel spin

it revs clean and fast and engine sounds healthy. very healthy actually

    but something holding it back.

with it not being able to wheel spin cuz no power to the back wheels this is why i was thinking it could be something to do with ratio?

i would like to narrow it down to which engine i got.

the suffix number only covers 307 and 350. does this mean its a 350?

tell you what i was thinking with this puzzle.

originally the car had a 4.1 straight 6 in it because this boddy is a 77 camaro LT.

the guy tells me he took the straight 6 out and droped in a 350.

now with the LTs diff ratio being suited for the straight 6

surley this could be the problem with it now having a v8 with more power? ?

    ratio is wrong?

he also told me hes using the original trans TH350 from the straight 6

so basically all in all, its a v8 running thru a straight 6 trans and rear axle ratio.

    maybe the problem?
At this point, don't be concerned with your differential and transmission. The ones you have are fine for a fairly tame small block. That's the beauty of Chevy's... interchangeable parts. Most SBCs from that era were/are fairly puny, don't expect much out of it without some mods.
I've had plenty of them that ran and sounded good, but definately weren't tire scorchers.

you may want to count how many times the trans shifts it might be starting in second or high gear or maybe the converter is locking up .......ted
