Something crazy happend last night...
Just replaced the crank. I put my engine in my truck back together, and I was trying to get the motor started and noticed that air and fuel was being blown out of the carb. I then put my hand on the tail pipe and it was sucking air into the tail pipe...any guesses????VROOM, VROOM,...BOOM!!!!

Well, off hand it seems your motor is running backwards. When was the last time it ran correctly? What parts did you switch in your rebuild? When you cranked it did the engine pulleys run clockwise as you looked straight at them from the front?

you certainly don't have the timing events where they need to be

There was a late 50's Oldsmobile engine that would run backwards. . . .It's Just a Car!
It takes a real MAN to build a hotrod - and not use chevy power!!?

well...funny thing...we put the front of the engine back on thinking it was the timing marks on the timing set were miss aligned...but they weren’t. It was the crank gear that had three key slots and when #1 was at TDC both valves were open...Well needless to say I learned allot because it took use all day to figure something that small out...lolVROOM, VROOM,...BOOM!!!!

I'm sure I'm not the only one on here who's ever got an old Detroit Diesel to run backwards. Kinda crazy putting the truck in low and actually going backwards, smoke pourin' out from under the hood and no power. Got her shutdown restarted her and ran fine. Told my buddy 'bout it (it was his truck) he had a good chuckle.

Might have been easier if you had taken the engine out and turned it around backwards.....

I have had this happen but I am not saying it is the problem with yours, a starter from I think it is a 4 cylinder cavalier or another GM product will turn the motor in reverse, It lines up with your mounting bolts and looks the same,
Just what I was thinking

I should have just put two carbs on the pipes and run exhaust out the hood...lolVROOM, VROOM,...BOOM!!!!
