    350 overheats

i just built a new motor for my truck. started it up and ran great. then it overheated.
timing seems ok. no flow through the radiator. top radiator hose gets hot and pressureizes but bottom stay cool. brand new 180 thermostat from napa installed spring down. i assume it opens cause the top radiator hose is hot. pulled the thermostate out and doesent overheat of course but runs to cold.
    thanks cody

    Sounds like a bad thermostat.

Cody, test the thermostat in a pan of water on the kitchen stove, you'll know for sure if it opens/closes.

If the thermostat looks good start looking at the water pump.
Is it old...new? Standard or reverse rotation? What type drive system...standard belts or serpentine?

friend of mine put a serpentine drive on his chevelle. Unfortunately for him the serpentine kit did not come with a reverse flow fan. ( serpentine reverses the fan direction ) Ran hot, and took him a while to figure it out.
