    Small Block Chevy identification

I have a Chevy small block in a late 1970's early 1980's Impala. This engine is one that i want to transplant into my 1983 Mercedes- Benz 240d to make my very first Retrorod/ hotrod but... I was told by the former owner that it was a 350 but I ran the vin through car fax and it said it had a 267 4.4L V8. I also have no title for the car. I looked at a rebuilt engine site and it said the 267 has a driver side dipstick and the 350 avalible for the impala had a passanger side dipstick which my engine has. at this point i am confused and need help finding out what it really is. does anyone know what this might be.

Look on the back of the block on the drivers side by the head, you'll see some numbers. Those numbers will tell you what motor you have.
The only dumb question is the one you don't ask..

If this engine I have is a 267 I would like to know if this engine is worth using if i would like to pump out 300- 350 hp at the flywheel? can I use Block hugger headers and a edlebrock preformer intake and matched summet racing cam? I would like to use a 750 cfm preformer carb.

I looked for the pad a long time ago and i could not find it. I guess my question is where is the pad is it on the drivers side head and where infront/ how far down should i look? I know Im probobly sounding pretty stupid right now but I'm only 15 and hot rods and muscle cars have always facinated me and this will be my first hot rod ever and my dad forgot where the pad is, he also always owned mopar cars but knew how to work on the versitle sbc . I will not be able to get to the back of the block as the car was in a acident and the hood only opens half way and it is -15 degrees here in new york and i do not wish freezing trying to get the hood off to look. Thanks for your coorporation and replying to my Question.

    Chevy 267

Until I got my parts car and ran the vins on the car I had never heard of a 267. I thought the smallest Sbc was the 283. Now that i have heard of it i would like to know some info on the engine so that i know about most of the small block chevy's? is it true that the edlebrock intakes will only work with engines as small as 283 ruling out the 267& 265's? I have also heard of block huggars in the same situation, is this true? I would also like to know the bore and stroke of this engine? I have looked for recources on this engine but have found nothing.

    267

The 267 was a smog-wheezer!!! Better find a boat that needs an anchor.

Small cylinders, short stroke, small ports, thin walls. Just BAD news for a hotrod.

If you leave it stock and just freshen it up, you could use it for a daily driver, but don't expect anything spectacular out of it.

If you put it in the 123 chassis from your other post, it would at least be faster than the skimpy diesel that Daimler put in...

I like the Tim taylor version from the 90's comady show Home inprovement. More Power!!! I may be engine shopping if mine really is a 267. If the engine is in a late 70's early 80's Impala and a former owner that my mom is friends with said the car had balls. He Is the kind of guy that would light them if he could whereever he could, what are the chances this is a 267?

If the impala is a 1981-1982 it very well could be a 267. There may have been other years with the 267 but those are the only years I'm sure of.
