One day the lower radiator hose blew...I was shocked to discover it was a V8. LOL.. but hey, if you think its fast...have yourself a good time. by the way...what is hella ? Is that an ebonics word ?
if its pretty fast, my guess is grandpa replaced it with something else
i think that the 262 and 267 are both very good motors the bore and stroke on the 267 is 3.5 by 3.48. factory hp on the 267 is 115 with the smogger cam and 2 barrel. drop in a comp cams 268h cam and a 600 cfm 4 barrel a good set of valve springs. then you will have somthing. i have a 267 in my truck out of a 79 malibu. with a comp cams truck 4x4 extreem camshaft and a 600 4 barrel carb. in my 86 monte i run a 262 that runs like a basterd, i run a isky full roller with harland sharp rockers and full length headers. if you have any questions on either of the 2 motors just ask it is all i deal with. good luck jay
Good questions for a 15 year old. I don't see why you would be busting his chops. Bottom line is you can spend a couple of grand on this motor and have 200hp or you can spend the same money on a 350 and have 400hp. your choice. hp and torque is expensive, how fast you want to go? The better base engine you start with, the more bang for the buck you will see in the end. My opi, dont spend squat on this motor. 350 cores are cheap and easy to locate.
only 400? give me 2 grand i could get alot more then 400 from a 283

2 grand gets eatin up pretty quick these days, unless youve already got some good stuff laying around.
where you live 350s and 400s might be all over but where i live there are a few local dirt tracks, that have blown up all the small blocks around here unless you dont mind spending 5 bills on a short block all that are left are 267 262 305s.
i would just go find myself a nice v8 either a 283, 302, 327, or a 350 and build it i have a 283 in my 73 porsche 914 and it is an absolute hoss, way too much motor for that car. im only 16 so i know the feeling of being impatient and wanting things right now but trust me if u put a penny into that 267 you will kick yourself forever. build a 350 or something you can get one at a junk yard really cheap. all i have on my 283 is 461 heads offmy old 327 an edelbrock high rise a holley 600cfm and block huggers with borla mufflers and the car sounds so mean but it really is none of the hondas try me more than once
even with the stock car guys buying the 350s ( there is a reason there not buying the 262s & 267s), I cant believe that the 262s & 67s are more plentiful in your junkyards than 350s, those motors where only made a couple years each, & that was 20 years ago or more. anyway, even at $500.00 your still ahead of the game. you get an easy 250HP from a stock rebuilt 4 barrel 350 with a 159.00 rebuild kit, with maybe a set of headers . infact I can get a flattop forged rebuild kit for a 350 for about the same cost as the cast stock rebuild kit for a 262 or 267. youll spend alot more getting 250HP from the 267.
However.....if the 262 is what you really like...than go for it, its hotrodding afterall, its about what you like...just comparing apples to apples is all...dollar for dollar , any other small block, or just about any other V8 makes more power. John
yes i know its hard to see. how 262s are more plentiful in this area but i like how the 262 turns up they use a short stroke and good size bore with less reciprocating mass than a larger engine but in the end run what you got.
Larry's performance shop, inc 355 2bolt hyper $990. 4bolt $1105, forged $1080 and $1245. these are built shortblocks ready to go. GM goodwrench 350 long block $1419. summit, jegs, or scoggin-dickey and this is a 4 bolt motor. a new 350 bare block is less than $700. at sd. these prices are good nationwide. Pick up a CHP or hot rod mag and you will find them advertized. I dont know where massena is located but if its in the states these prices are good there too. cheers robert
i got a silly question does the 267 take the same oil filter as the 305 and 350? im asuming it does?
262... i know a guy who would might buy 2 !
anyone know if this is right?Quote:

My 267 only mustered up a 13.49 @54 mph in the 1/8 mile this past firday at my local track. This motor is getting dumped asap.
