    350 vs 400

hello everyone, I was wondering what would be a better or more reliable motor to use as a base for a stroker engine, the 350 or 400. this motor would be used in a class 1400 offroad race truck. the vehicle weight is around 5k pounds as it sits now with a bbc with iorn heads. the truck also has a 9" rear end with 5.14 gears and th400 with a manual valve body. I was hoping to see 400 to 500 hp reliable hp on premium fuel. Is that possible? any input is appreciated. thanks

class 1400 is basically a unlimited class. besides the safety rules, the only other rule is the truck has to retain a steel cab with operating doors. engine, drivetrain, vehicle weight, suspension type, tire size is wide open.

why can you not run the bbc ? that will make 500 hp all day long with stock bottom end ? if it is weight a deal then i would build the 350 to a 383

weight is not a real big issue within reason, the bbc in the truck now has seen better days and i was thinking of trying something different. but now the more i toss around the idea of putting a small block in the truck the more things i need to change. headers, motor mounts, pulleys ect. maybe just freshen up the big block and install some alum heads to save some weight and gain hp. i attached a picture of the truck to give a idea of what im working with.

i was thinking thats was what you had COOL i would build a bbc with a 4.375 crank and a stock 454 9.800 deck block this get you to the 500 cid if you can run that in your class ? or bigger ? but any way the stock bbc will take the crank with some work but if you have $$ then there is other ways to go to i would build for max tq and gear for that use a set of alum heads water pump to help keep weight down or go to tall deck block and go to 600 cid if so i have a alum bbc donovan i will sell any way you go you need to look at a very good wet sump oil pan for any engine but may not do the job as good as a dry sump all that jumping
