    Engine Stalling

Chevy Nova stalling when put it in gear. 355 with comp xe 268 cam with BM 2400 stall. Pulling 14lbs vacuum in park drop it in gear drops off to 7lbs. The car runs fine other wise. Off line pulling thru gears at 5800 rpms. Never skips beat from dead stop. Idel set 1200 rpms. Drops to 4-500 rpms in gear sometime it just stalls. Not as bad when car up to tempature. I did try to richen up at idel backing mixture srews out half turn.

at a 1200 rpm idle, are you sure your car is even idleing on the idle circuit of the carb? sounds like you're trying to tune it in an off idle.... then when you drop it in gear you're getting into the idle circuit where its not tuned to run
just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

Hey Cookster, I am not going to assume anything. Do you have a carb that is adjustable? If yes then you need to set your idle with a vaccuum gauge. First adjust your idle in park to lowest rpm with the highest vaccuum. Probably some where around 900-1000 rpm. Do this by ajusting the idle screw at the accelerator bracket and the idle air screws. After obtaining good idle in park block the tires and put car in gear. If it stays running adjust air/idle screws to highest vaccum possible. You might have to adjust idle screw and air/idle screws several times to achive highest vaccuum at lowest idle rpm.

Hey Cookster, No problem the air idle screws are on each side of carb. screwing them in cuts the fuel flow. Out increases the idle.
