Trust me a I know a 350 would be cheaper and probably easier. Will a 350 use the same motor mounts as the 283?? I also don't want a tire shredder. I think the tire size is 5.50ish. I think a warm 283 could cause problems for a tiny tire like that...
Yes,the 350 will use the same mounts.
If it is numbers matching then I say keep the 283 in the corner and build a 350/383.
