Need new head for my Chevy SB
Hi,
I just build up a new SB and so fare I have a good block (bore 4.00) and some old 64cc heads on which a lot of work have to be done and of course a lot of money to be spent on.
Therefore I was wondering whether it might be better to buy new heads or refurbish my old ones!
What new heads could be a good choice for me?
They must be out of cast iron. The new engine will be used only on the street, but should have some power.
I read that World SR heads and World Product Sportsman II heads are good.
Also Vortec heads from Gm Performance as well as AFR (Air Flow Research) 180 or 190 were recommended to me.
What do you think about those heads? What are there advantages or disadvantages?
What would you recommend?
Thanks!
James

I think you will be more happy to buy set of world SR heads over the Vortec. Because the casting is thicker and less likely to crack under extreme racing and heat condition.

I have only the block, which is a 350 cui.
So fare I did not buy anything. Therefore I do not have a cam etc, and can choose so that it fits perfect to the head.
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
