well I have what I have in my signature. Now the thing that has come about this evening is I can swap for a 454, nice motor but mild cam 4 barrel only. I want 500 hp in my 97 s10, but I think the BB will get me cheaper and faster. Comments?"oohh...thats gonna leave a mark!"

I don,t know what you are putting it in but better stay with 383 if it,s in s-10 the bbc(454) just is gonna be hard without a torch to put in s10 also gonna take MONEY to get 500hp (of course anything is possible)I just wonder what happened to GOVERNMENT of the people by the people for the people?

well I have a great flame wrench, but I think the thing I'm finding out is how hard it is to find a reasonably priced header for that application. Then again I'm itching to see what that 496 feels like under my butt."oohh...thats gonna leave a mark!"

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
