Go with the 400. They do not overheat if you build them right. A lot of the overheating is due to the fact people don't drill steam holes in the heads and have a good radiator capable of supporting 400 cubic inches. You need torque for that heavy car, and the 400 small block will provide you with plenty. I agree that a 409 would be really cool if you can locate one.
