vortec heads
What year did chevy start with the production vortec heads on the 350's and is any particular year "better". 2nd question is why do they need a "special" intake, is it the bolt pattern?"oohh...thats gonna leave a mark!"

I can only answer the 2nd part of your question. PreVortec intakes were 12 bolts, 6 per side. Vortecs are 8, 4 per side. I have a '99 Vortec engine I am going to use in my T, and I THINK Vortecs started in '96, but someone else will know for sure.

vortecs came out on v8s in '96 but earlier in 6 cylinders i believe and yes you need a special intake

The bolt pattern is 4-bolts a side and the bolts enter the block exactly vertically instead of at an angle. In other words, straight up and down. And yes, the Vortec v-8 heads started in 1996 on the 350.
Changed the shocks yesterday to OEM spec Monroe, they are still gas shocks. Disappointed that the ride is still very firm, it is not as bad but I was hoping for better. Might have something to do...
