    Low Po 307 piston swap

Somewhere at another forum somebody mentioned a a 307 build up using more available 283 performance pistons and making up the stroke difference by using short 400 rods, Only reason I ask is that I had never heard of that build even in the magazines, just curious if anybody has tried that set up

283 piston would drop the pin 0.125", 400 rod would be 0.135" shorter, so yeah, you would be within 0.010" of being right. You could juggle the deck height and get there, if you had plans to deck the block anyway. You may not be aware that aftermarket pistons are way shorter than production units to allow for decking, so do some careful measuring before you lay down your money or the deck height could be off too far to get good squish on the motor.

    Did someone say 400 rods.
I still have 3 five gal. buckets filled with the 5.565 long 400 rods.
Do you want all the 400 blocks I have with the cracks and holes in them too?
One 400 block has hole in the bottom of one of the cylinders the size of a golf ball.
I also have a 400 block that has a 8 inch long crack right down the lifter valley.
You might be able to fix it.
The crack is only 1/4 wide.

    Wow Eric!.
That is one heck of a collection of dead 400;s, Im afraid that not even jb weld can save those.
Now as far as the rods go, How do you ventilate a 400 and still have rods left over? J/K

The only reason I have all the rods left over is because we never ran them.
Pulled the 5.565 rods out and installed the 6.0 rods.
When we use to the 406/420's we would always wind them up to 7,500 couple that with over a 13.5 to 1 comp. ratio a "very tacky" and you have 400's with cracks and holes.

    Whew,
For a minute there I thought that they had been in 7500 rpm 400,s
    I know you know better!
I'm gonna check with a local lad that has a couple of 400 projects in the works. He might need two sets.
Incidently I am still laughing from an earlier post of yours concerning the resident wise arse on this site!! Too funny!!

I'm not sure, but I think the 283's are cheaper and easier to get.
