Is serpentine belt parts interchangable for V8 and V6?

I have a 1987 SBC 305 I want to put the serpentine setup on it. Can I use the setup from a V6 Camaro/Firebird, or are the brackets and accessories different.

Also, I dont need the smog pump, can I use a smaller belt and not put the pump in, or do I need it in there anyway as an idler pulley?

Well I know they have a smaller (shorter)belt, and I'm almost certian that everything from the V6 will bolt right on. If I'm wrong I'm sure somone will speek up.

The 4.3 six stuff is the same. If you dont need the smog pump, you should eyeball the belt path...it should wrap without another idler.

Be aware that there are two different bolt patterns for the end of Chevy small block heads. Make sure your brackets fit the heads that you have before you go too far....

Like Mike said the 4.3 stuff should be usable. Astro Vans, s10 and full size pick ups. Be careful with the Camaro/Firebird stuff because they were mostly 60* 2.8's, 3.1's and 3.4's so the brackets wouldn't be a bolt on for your small block.
