    oil passage blockage?

i need help with a small block 350 oiling issue. I have rebuilt the motor and have taken care to make sure everything fits correctly and that all holes and passages are aligned. When priming the oil system I found that the right top end system is not receiving oil. The left is fine. I believe there is a restriction in the internal oil passages but I am not sure what direction they are routed. I would like to blow air backwards through each passage to dislodge, but are the passages directional as far as oil flow? which end is pressurized from pump? any diagrams or experience would be helpful.

all plugs are in and I did not have distributor to prime pump. I used the old intermediate pump shaft.

Do you have all the "cam plugs" in the block?

plugs are in and passages are sealed. would like to know more about priming with distributor in place. I used the old oil pump shaft to turn the new pump.

Well this could be your problem.
    You need a priming tool.
If you just use the old shaft you will not divert the oil to the correct passage.
Use a very good electric drill with the priming tool.

On a SBC the oil to the right bank top end flows past the distributor. Without it in there, the oil just drops back into the pan. Look at the dist., you can see the two "rings" that form the passage.

well all the great minds thinkin alike were on the right track. local NAPA had the primer tool in for me this morning for around $20 and everything primed up just fine. Now I have oil everywhere I want it and the motor all sealed up ready for the install this weekend weather permitting. Thanks for the minor insights into these things easily overlooked.
