Distributer problems
I tryed puttin my crank at tdc and my #1 piston at its peak and try to put my distributer in with the rotor at #1 pistor spark tower but when it slides down it turns to the #2 piston . ive tryed and tryed different things and my car wont start

well i put it in a couple different ways and tryed startin it and it almost starts but it just wont. it some times back fires throught the carb

Popping through the carb sounds like the timing is way retarded. You can either pull the distributor and reset it or roll the plug wires around the cap so that no. plug wire hooks where no. 2 is.RAY

how much horses do u think im pushin its a 87' firebird smallblock 355 edelbrock performer rpm intake and 750 carb, heddman headers, comp camand lifters, roller rockers,bored .40 over and shaved the heads

I think you need to supply some more info. Like Compression ratio, lift and duration, head info etc. to be able to form a more accurate guess.
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
