    Question Running in a 350...

    Hi Folks,
I'm just rebuilding a 350. I'm putting in Sealed Power pistons and rings. I unpacked the rings, and the oil control rings have little colored pieces of plastic stuck to them so you can't accidently overlap them. Do I take those plastic things off before installing the pistons? And the compression rings have colored ends. Do I take the color of them?
Second question: I'm going to use a CompCams Retro-Roller camshaft. It's second hand but as good as new. Do I need to use cam-lube oder something special on the lobes before installation?
Would appreciate any help I can get,
Thanks a lot and happy Easter,
    Mad

With roller cams, you don't need a special assembly lube. Most suppliers, including Competition Cams, recommend thoroughly cleaning the lifters with parts cleaner or mineral spirits, then giving them a thorough soaking in motor oil. I usually do that, install the cam, drop the lifters in place, then pour a couple of quarts of oil over the whole mess. Roller lifters do not require a break-in period either. You also need to make sure that the cam is not able to walk in the block. You might want to read this article:

Someone else needs to answer the ring questions, although I don't see how plactic on the oil rings could be a good thing.

    Thanks, Jack,
the article definitely helped me, I would have got everyhting right except for the fuel pump pushrod, wouldn't have thought of that
If anyone happens to know about whether to take off plastic and color from the rings, let me know.
    Thanks so far,
    Max

If no one has the answer, pull up Sealed Power on line, and call them.
