cam- so much to choose from

Im building a street 350 right now. I plan on getting some Dart Iron Eagle heads with 200cc intake runners. I plan on having about 10:1 for the comp. ratio, Performer RPM, and a holly 750. My truck weighs about 3900lbs id say with the stock converter (will get a new one however). I want my motor to be quite agressive. I was looking at a couple diffrent cams and one i was looking at is the VOODOO cam. Its got 227/233 degrees of duration at 0.050. 489/504 lift. 110 LSA (supposidly 1800-6200) The other cam I was looking at is a crane cam. Part # 110591, grind # H-228/3200-2S-6. This cam has 480/495 degrees of lift with 228/234 degrees of duration at 0.050. Which of these two cams would be my better choice? Does anybody think I should run a "bigger" cam? ALSO, if ANYBODY thinks they know of a better cam for my set-up please feel free to let me know! This is my first build so im kinda foggy. Thanks!

cams sometimes can be tricky but it looks like they are pretty much the same in duration u didnt give LSA for the crane cam. iwould say with the 200cc runner i would go with the voodoo cam since it has more lift it might move more air but the idle in both are gonna be the same. Do you know compression ratio

LSA on the Crane is 106, so the idle will be a little choppier with it.

I am putting together a similar engine for my roadster (9.5, World Products heads, 750 Edlebrock, Mallory ign. 700r4 w/2300 converter 3.25 rear etc.) but, 2500 lbs. I looked at the same Voodoo cam you are looking and thought it sounded like a good one for my combo.
Instead I went with a Speed Pro - Lift 480/480, Adv. duration 292/292, Duration @.050" 230/230, Lobe sep. 107/111. I hope it works ok, but other than expense, cam changes arn't to bad. Let me kno if you go with the Voodoo and how its works/sounds.

see old hippie the problem is his truck weights in at 3900 lbs. and your roadster weights in at 2500 lbs. the cam that works best for him may not be the best for you. JIMO.! i think that if he is running a 4x4 these cams are to big for his application. even at 3900# 2wd a 290 duration cam is to big and for an manual trans u can have a tighter LSA like 106 an automatic 110 and up. anything to add anyone or correct me please if i am wrong

    383 chev,
I agree with you. It was just kool he had picked one of the same cams I was pondering. With a 700r4, converter and lower rear he can be a little aggressive, but choosing a cam is usually one of the biggest factors in building an engine. The cam people almost always are very conservative.

You don't have enough c.r. to run that cam. I think you'll find that it's a little soggy on the bottom as compared to a little shorter cam.

Depending on if your transmission is going to have an overdrive or not I would use a Chet Herbert Camshaft part# C3N Dur 214/224 Lift 442/457 112 lsa and degree it 4 or 5 degrees ahead its only 49$ and its a great cam!

My truck is 2wd. Like I said i would have to guess 3900lbs but may be way off. My old motor with stock 1.94 76cc heads had a cam with about .510 degrees of lift and around 220-230 degrees of duration. I could absolutly burn the tires off very easliy with out even touching the brake. It was actually kinda dangerious, but I cant use that cam again due to fatigue and such.

SO,you guys think its better to have a wide LSA for my set up?

Im running the VooDoo cam just a step down from the one you mentioned the #60102... you're talking about the #60103. Now that i have the car running I almost wish i went the step up but I love the cam I have now. Car has alot of torque and feels pretty strong. Not an extremely lopey idle but its rough.
