Who makes a decent 383 shortblock

I am trying to keep it under 1700, but would like 6 inch rods and quality components with internal balancing. Its a a 1 pc rear seal. I called Motor Machine and Service (MM&S) as recommended by David Vizard in his books, has anyone used them before?

Why not go to your local race shops talk to them, talk to guys that are at the track or drag strip every weekend.Nothing against MR. Vizard but he is only one man and an author.

Midwest motorsports does not even have a machine shop.I am un-clear who does their machine work for them.Dick Boyer of Boyer Engine Development is located in the back of their building.I don't think he does alot for them anymore and he is one of the best engine builder's in the midwest.I get to race against his U.S.M.T.S. engines every weekend. The Henja brothers have some very good engines.Tony and Brett who is doing your machine work?

thanks for the help fellas, i called the local and only speed shop. They are pretty reputable around here. I just moved here to SC and the guys down here are psycho about racing. They race anything with wheels and i mean anything and everything is for money. I went to watch street racing last night. $2000.00 pot for measly 13 second cars. They argued for 2 hours before finally racing and as soon as they finished the state troopers got note of it. But i guess my point is that the local machine shop does a lot of business because of the need for it..
