chevy 350 transmission conversion
I want to mate a cheap 5 speed trans to my 350, and I'm thinking I wouldn't have any trouble finding an old truck transmission. The only thing I'm worried about is only being able to find a 4x4 trans.
I was wondering if anyone knows of an adapter that would allow me to use a 4x4 trans without the transfer case.
Or, if there is a better idea in general as to how I can get a cheap 5 speed, please let me know.

The first Chevy full sized truck transmission that is a 5 speed (light trucks, that is) is the NV4500....before that, they were all 4 speeds. The NV4500 is not a cheap transmission, they sell on EGAY for $1000 or so. They are avaliable in both 2wd and 4wd. Most transmissions have a different output shaft between the two models (2wd and 4wd) and changing the output shaft is not cheap either.
The S10 uses a lighter duty T5. There are more versions of this thing than you can count. Here is a good T5 site:

The later model camaros had T5 trannys that could take a good amount of torque....the banger S10 were lighter.

can use a t-5 out of a ford or chevy and then just purchase the correct bellhousing too... that might make your hunt a little easierjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day
