Well, unless the motor decided to take a dump, or have some electical problem, I think the distributor may have been loose and turned to an advanced position. Check to see if the dist is tight.

There are alot of possibilities, but in the scenerio you outlined, I can't imagine what could happen just by turning the idle screw. I think that is just coincidental.
