383 cam help
I need to choose a cam for the 32 hi boy I'm currently building. 383 engine with a 350 turbo trans, ford 9" w/ 3.50 gears, 30-31 inch tire, car weight should be around 2500 lbs.
74 CC, 2.02 GM heads
CR will be 9.75:1 according to my calculations
After calling the cam companies, I think I have narrowed it down to 2 cams:
Lunati 60103 -
Adv duration - 268/276
Dur @ .050 - 227/233
Lift - .489/.504
LSA - 110
ICL - 106
Comp Cams 12-246-3
Adv dur - 274/286
Dur @ .050 - 230/236
Lift - .487/.490
LSA - 110
ICL - 106
Do either of these look good to you guys? What do you think will be best, a little more lift or duration? Any other suggestions are much appreciated.Jason

Those are some fairly big cams...
Are you looking to drive the car, or are you looking for something radical???
What size converter do you have???Top speed...Unlimited.

On my build up I used a Comp Cams 8-422-8 Hyd. Roller
Valve lift IN 495 EX 502 Duration At 0.05 IN 218 EX 224 ADV duration IN 270 EX 276
The engine has flat top pistons Dart PRO1 200cc heads, 72cc chambers with 2.055 IN 1.60 EX and my rockers are IN 1.65(544 lift) EX 1.55(519 lift). It idles real good and plenty of vacume and pulls real strong
The willys weights 3600, 700r4(1900 stall) Dana 60 w/posi 4.10 gears 31" tiresLast edited by 49willysSD; 02-24-2006 at 10:07 PM.

Re: 383 cam help
Either of those cams will work fine. I like the Comp the most but if you have a completely stock convertor, I would go with the 268 from comp or lunati. You got enough engine and compression that you don't need a stall with either 268.Originally posted by Randall

I thought someone posted on here some time ago that a 383 would do better with the extra duration, but maybe I am totally wrong.Jason

Re: 383 cam help
Either cam will work but.I would try and run at least a 2,000 converter. If you don't have a stall I would cut the intake duration at .050 back about 10.Originally posted by Randall

The 268 comp cam will sound just like stock, just more pull. More cubic inches, more cam. I pulled the 268 and went with a 292 this time as I'm still waiting to get this on the road.

Erik, I never tried not to get along. You have been on here about the same time as me. I can't believe you have'nt read some of my replies. I have never gone straight out to put someone down. I have added nothing but info to help. I don't think you and I will ever get along.

You did call me a smart ass.I am glad you are back. You have helped a lot more people than I have.I think that is what this forum should always be about.I will try and make posts without being a smart ass.A few people have told me it is not what I say but how I say it.They say I am to abrupt.Originally posted by DennyW
I read all my replies, and did not see where I called you personally a name. I didn't leave because of you. I just desided to let things lay where they were. I have moved on.
