    Which distributor do I use?

I have a '66 Chevelle with a freshly rebuilt 350 out of a '75 Chevelle. I have put a factory TPI off of an '86 Camaro on it. The car will have a 700R4. What type of distributor should I use? I am guessing I don't want vacuum advance. Do I want one with mechanical advance, electronic advance or both? Do I need to use an ignition box? The motor is relatively mild since this will be driver/cruiser so I don't want anything to radical. The engine has roughly 290-300HP.

You will need an HEI distributor without the vacuum cannister. The advance will be controlled by the computer.
I intend to live forever; so far, so good.

So should it be an electronic distributor or can it be a mechanical advance?
    Thanks,

You need to use the HEI dist that gose with the TPI set up(electronic) it is a 7 or 8 pin HEI. All of the advance is controled though the computer,

depends, with the TPI are you using the factory computer for it or are you using an aftermarket computer that eliminates sensors, if you're using the aftermarket one then go ahead and use mechanical, if you still have o2 sensors and such, then use the electronic advance
just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

if you are taking the TPI off of another car you need to use the dist, sensors, and computer that the intake came off of. that TPI is not gonna work by it self, the dist. sensors and computer is what makes it work.

Thanks! I have it all except the distributor. I am using a factory computer. I was just going to get a new distributor and am just curious as to what to get. I don't want a high dollar one, just one that will work. This car is just going to be a driver/cruiser. I like everything new. I just rebuilt the engine along with the 700R4 and all the engine accessories are new, not rebuilt or used, so I want a new distributor too. Nothin' fancy, just a nice one.
    Thanks!
