    3x2 or quad

I really love the looks and nostalgia fo a 3x2 setup. Can a tripower system be tuned to run as well as a 4 barrel on a mild 283?
Also which carbs would be the best: Stromberg 97s, Holley 94s or Rochesters?

Hmmmm. "Run as well..." That's hard to say. A single four will be less trouble, and probably make more power, but 3 Rochesters can be made to work with some fussing, and they do look cool! Remember that most driving is done on the center carb, so its like a single 2bbl. most of the time. We used to put a switch under the gas pedal and a solenoid on the outer carbs. Click-VOOM. All or nothing! A master switch disabled them when your Mom took the car for Bingo.

The short answer is it can be made to run almost as well and in some cases better depending on the manifolds and carbs you are comparing. Key points will be carb sizing, jetting and linkage setup.

This subject has been pretty extensively covered in the
    past.

    Talking Thanks

Mike P thanks for the archives.
Sorry for my lazyness using the SEARCH.

I really would like to use 3-bolt carbs if I can. With such low CFM ratings, would you ditch the progressive linkage and go straight linkage?

Henry's absolutely right. You aren't feeding very many cubic inches.

You will also find dialing in a straight linkage a considerably greater challenge, as to do it properly requires using the sycn guages as described in some of the other posts listed. With progressive linkage this is not required.
