If you run quality oil, and filter, plus change it like you should, there is no reason to plug off the relief. That is there for a reason. Providing your engine clearances are correct also. That's what determines how much oil pressure your going to run to specific parts anyhow.I have seen where if the relief wasn't working, there would have been much more damage to the engine.
