Hey dozzer: yes those are some unconventional things to put in a motor! I had nothing to lose since we were going to tear it down anyway. I'm admitting this stuff too to hopefully let other people know they don't work, or didn't work for us, and wouldn't recommend it even before this happened to us. Even though my excuse is storage, I still don't know what prompted me to use the grease. I guess I still thought it would melt away and be ok, apparently not.

76gmc1500: I've always used oil in the past. On our other 57 we had non-crome moly rings, the car smoked for about 5 minutes lightly, stopped, and was ready to go per say. It had a tad bit of smoke but it was all gone by say 50-100 miles if that. On the first rebuild, after 550 miles the rings "should" of been seated by then one would think.
