    timing questions

I need help with my 74 Nova. Whenever I got on it hard, mainly up hill, it would miss. I just degreased the engine and thought maybe there was moisture in the cap so I took it off cleaned it out and put it back. The only thing that moved was part of the rotor that spins, it clicked once but was still in the same position before I hit it. Can this still make my timing off?

    For Info,
Common reasons why these old girls mis under heavy acel are 99.999% elecrical, check the following, high tension leads corroded wet or shorting, faulty plugs, dirty dizzy cap, the reason is because of the increased combustion chamber pressure the plugs intermittently stop firing, this is provided your engine is only missing under heavy accel not at idle general driving ect

Thanks Steve. yes it was only happening under heavy load. The good news is I fix the problem. First I changed the spark plugs and wires. When I was putting the wires back on I followed the books lay out and my car wouldn't start so I pulled the #1 plug, took the cap off and cranked the motor over until it was on the compression stroke put the cap back on with the #1 plug wire where the rotor was pointing. It started right up and no more miss even doing 100 mph up hill.
