    RAMJet 350 Performance Tuning

I have a 1950 Studebaker Pickup Truck with a GM Performance Parts RAMJet 350 Crate Motor. The truck has been under restoration for the past couple of years, and we just finished it a few months ago.

We have most of the bugs worked out of the truck, but we are still having some performance problems with the motor. The local company I hired to perform the restoration is very talented but they do not have experience with Computerized Fuel Injection systems nor do they have the appropriate tools for this motor.

The truck produces a lot of exhaust when the engine is reved. The exhaust has a very strong fuel smell, comes out in a visable black cloud and even dumps carbon on the floor near the exhaust tip.

Any ideas on where to start with diagnosing this problem? Does anyone know of a resource in Illinois or close by who has experience with this motor?

I also have problems with the shift points in the truck as it never gets above 4000 RPM's. I would like to tune the motor before addressing the shift point issue. I am also assuming we will change the rear end gearing very soon.

    Thanks for your help!!
