383 stroker ...Need info
I am assembling a 383 stroker kit. someone told me with a 383 you needed a windage tray in your oil pan so the oil can fall back into your oil pan with out having the crank pull it right back around. Though i dont have a high volumer oil pump so it isnt going to be sucking up really fast. Anyone have an answer?

It really depends on the application, oil pan,r.p.m.s.It really has nothing to do with the stroke of the crank.Originally posted by Sixty6

A windage tray is not a necessity on any motor except a thoroughbred racing motor, but it sure helps to control the oil in a hi-perf street motor. Constructing a close-fitting crank scraper will help too.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

Re: 383
I would check the pan very carefully. Some of the 350 pans will not work because of the larger counter weight of the 3.75 stroke. It will hit the pan in a couple different places.

383
I have a 383 in my 55 Chevy for two years. I run this on the street all the time, not at the strip. Dose not have a oil windage tray in it. It has a 525 lift hgd roller cam with roller rockers and took care of the head with guide plates, screw in studs. I run it up to 6500 rpm.
Hope this helps.
Terry

It would be nice if this up and down crap would cease.
